I was watching videos at flightlevel350 and watched this video

For a couple seconds you can see the F/O using a second throttle. What is it, and why is he using it?

Thanks

  1. I wasn't able to watch the video but I see the title as Dash 8 and i look at my manual:  the left most is the parking brake, then the two are power levers (which in pure jet are start levers) then next are condintioned levers (which we call throttle levers on pure jet) and next is the flap lever.

Hope I helped you in a way.

  2. 'High performance aircraft', those with variable pitch or 'constant speed' props have three controls for the engine, a 'throttle', a 'mixture selector', and a 'prop pitch' selector.  Each engine, if it is a reciprocating engine will have these.  Hope that helps

  3. One for each engine

  4. maybe the first one broke

  5. If the aircraft has multiple engines there will be one throttle and a mixture control for each.
