  1. Common Goldfish, in proper conditions, can live decades.

If they are given the right care, they have quite a long lifespan. They can get near 2 feet long, which is why they need a significant amount of water - at least 55G for one goldfish, though that is the bare minimum. They also need heavily filtered water.

Most pet goldfish do not live past a year or two due to improper care.

  2. my personal oldest goldfish is now 16 and still kicking.. he's about 22'' and lives in my friends pond.. we might get him back now that we re-did our :D

  3. I had a gold fish live till it had turned 12 years. His name was biggie, because he was a big fish. He kept growing, and growing, and growing.

  4. hi my sisters goldfish was 29 yrs old .it was all bent and twisted..her daughter won it at the fairground when she was 2  she was 31 when it died ..good hey  i think amazing only in small fish bowl too

  5. The oldest one on record in the west was a comet who lived 43 years in a goldfish bowl.

China however have records of goldies living well beyond that with Koi as was mentioned well over 100.

Most fancy's however do not live nearly that long.  Their life span is closer to 10-15 years.  Bubble eye, telescope types live usually 10 years.

Comets and commons (not the same fish) are the longest living.

  6. It just depends on how well you take care of it. I have read they can live up to four to five years, but only because it was well cared for. Just make sure you clean its tank, research any diseases it can have so you can be able to treat it should it catch it, research food it can also have, etc. As long as you know how to take care of it, you shouldn't have any problems. Good Luck!

  7. It really depends on the individual fish.  Mine lived for 14 years, but died when we introduced new fish into the tank.  he became stressed out.  The oldest goldfish I know of lived to be 43 years old.  It all has to do with quality of water, food, etc.  they can't be overcrowded.  Other than that, it depends on the fish itself I guess.

  8. Goldfish have been known to live ten years or more on average. All depends on the quality of care and the fish's genes.

The oldest goldie on record was 43.

The oldest Koi was said to have been over 200 years old. (their scales grow rings like tree trunks, thus one can determine age)

Many animals are long lived, it just depends on how well we care for them and respect their needs.

  9. my goldfish were like 10 when they died, and they only died cuz there was a fungus in the water.
