  1. Depends on the temperature and atmosphere, at low to moderate (relatively speaking) temperatures in non corrosive conditions it could be many years, operating at maximum temperature in hostile conditions it would be _much_ shorter.

    You might try checking with the heaters manufacturer, (I suspect in most cases the life of the heater will be shorted than the that of the thermocouple)
