What is the little "r" besides company names and whatnot? What is it called?

You know how the C with the circle around it is "copyright" and then Little TM by Barbie and stuff is called "trademark".

What is the little "r" called?

i'm pretty sure it means registered. like registered trademark.

but restricted also sounds right too

but i think it's registered

Registered  - as in Registered Trademark

It means restricted and is sort of a more protected version of "trademark".  Normally it takes an extremely long time to receive a "restricted" symbol.
