  1. i would say they build away to aoid earthquakes but no idea aswell

  2. i would assume that many mines are located on old plate boundaries.

the reason is that often what's being mined is heavy, and has been squirted up by volcanic activity, most of which is on plate boundaries.

  3. Much of the world's metals are mined from existing or ancient subduction zones (destructive plate boundaries). This is where porphyry copper and epithermal gold deposits form. Their formation is related to the volcanic activity. Look them up on Wikipedia.

  4. Most of the Coal mines here in West Virgina are dug into the sides of mountains . If it wasn't for the uplifting cause by tectonic collisions in the past ,we wouldn't be digging side ways for coal, we would be digging strait down, at a much greater cost.

  5. Maybe this can help...

I love learning about plate tectonics!

  6. This is really an extremely complicated question.  But overly simplified, a large proportion of metal mines result from hydrothermal activity-the migration of heated groundwater through the crust.  A lot of ore types are associated with magma in the shallow crust because the magma acts as a heat source, causing the groundwater to heat up and move.

Therefore, metal ores tend to be found where there is a lot of magmatic activity.  Two dominant areas of shallow magma activity are subduction zones and spreading centers.  The same places that one sees most volcanoes.

Again, this is really an oversimplification.  Reality is a lot more complicated.
