What is the logic in Subway having so many locations?

I swear Subway has 20 locations in my economically depressed Michigan town. I work next to one, and I swear, from the amount of employees working on one shift, that the guy only makes 200 dollars a day. My business next door is booming, and his barely gets any customers. There's a Subway in the two Wal-Marts, a Subway down one road, another down the other, one in the mall...seriously, how many Subways can they build? They aren't making money! There must be some scam involved in this.

When I was in college in Ann Arbor, there were at least seven Jimmy Johns all over campus. However, I know they all made money and were packed. Subway...I have no idea how they make money putting stores all over town.

Perhaps they've over-extended.

My town of only 1500 people has a Subway. It's like our only restaurant. The owner explained that each location is privately owned and operated, so it's where ever someone decides to open one.

i used to work for subway and they all are not cooperated company some of them are franchised... let me break it down to get the point  

"why so many school in each cities!!"( tearing down apartment, stores, houses, parks,etc...)

every city need school, elementary, junior, high school, sometime it double the amount of each school because the size and the population in the city. and yes its a requirement  and its part of a learning tools too.i don't blame them their actions, it's the way it's has to be done for our future.

back to the subject ... i can buy subway store to start a business from a corprated company as a franchised owner and buy subway products from them and when I'm booming i can purchase another subway in a new location and long i have a back up funds and making profit from doing investment.

Why so many subways?..... well certain people prefer to eat healthy food and later day the fast food will go downhill.

If it bothers you why not just ignore  subway and focus on your business and stay positive , subway probably thinking the same about your business neighboring with them.

p.s. believe it or not Subways competing with another subways too not just any other restaurants or fast food.

p.s.s don't tell me you haven't bought a foot long sandwich from Subway.
