  2. The longest drive in an major championship is still Craig Wood's drive at the 5th in St Andrews in 1933 Open Championship. It was 430 yards from the tee into the left hand bunker of the "Spectacles" in the rise in front of the green. The Old Course was not watered much in those days (the 'links grass' turned brown but did not die).
