What driver have you hit that has gone the longest? My personal experience is the old Orlimar, don't remember the exact name but it bombed balls.

  1. I hit a Nike Sasquatch and the R5 about the same

  2. King Cobra L4V F... 330 twice

  3. TaylorMade V Steel Wood 3, it's not a driver but it's longer than my driver.   It went straight for 260 yards.....

  4. Big Bertha... 300 plus yards!!!

  5. You need to think about this - Golf is not about how far you can hit the ball, it is about how many times you hit it.

  6. Ping G-10, great club!

Before that, the original Nike. Not an easy club to hit but when you caught it, WOW!

  7. I've hit my Ping G10 better than any driver i've ever had, going about 285 yds on avg. with a couple over 300 yds every round.  I've also played with a Nicklaus AirMax and two different Cleveland Launchers, and the Ping is the longest.

  8. I had a team mate that I played with in college who had a Cleveland Launcher (circa 2002) that was a tour van issue.  Didnt really have any markings or anything other than Cleveland on the bottom, didnt even say what degree.  This was when Graphite Design Shafts had just come out and were really popular, he had the YS-7 in it and man that was by far the longest driver ive ever hit.  This was also before the USGA was really testing the COR of the driver face so this one had to be illegal but was really long.

  9. That would be the original Orlimar Trimetal with the graphite shaft with a low kick point. I still have a 7.5 and a 9 (which I have put in a longer shaft). And yes they do go rather a long way. I used to drive a 346 metre par four in summer on a regular basis with my Orlimar driver.

  10. Orlimar used to be a dang fine driver.  The guy who used to design the orlimar clubs now designs clubs for BobbyJonesGolf.

But to answer your question about the longest driver I have hit, I assume you want to know which driver your should buy in order to bomb drives.  If that's the case, the most important thing I can tell you is that **ANY** driver less than three years old will go much farther than the Orlimar because driver technology has just exploded in the last 3-4 years.  If your driver is older than 3 or 4 years, you are missing out, big time.  I replaced my driver 2 years ago and added 30+ yards.  Changing out the shaft added another 20-30 yards.

In fact, I wuld say that most of the drivers today are all around the same distance, and that the shaft is really the key to maximizing your distance.  Go get fitted for a shaft; its worth it.  Golf digest was able to add an average of 17 yards to scratch golfers' drives just by optimizing the shafts.  It really matters.  To know for sure, you need to get fitted, but in general, its all about the flex and the kick-point.  Most people know about the flex:  the faster your swing, the stiffer the shaft you will need.  The kick-point is really what determines the trajectory of the ball flight.  A high kick-point will produce a low ball flight.  A low kick-point will produce a higher ball flight.  Most amateurs need a low kick-point, but if you naturally have a high ball flight, this could rob you of distance as your drive baloons up instead of penetrating through the air.  Shots that are too high tend to come down too steep and get no roll.

If you really want to get crazy, you can lengthen the shaft to 48 inches, which is the max allowed by the rules of golf.  Long-drive drivers (used in long drive contests) almost always have a 48 inch shaft.  The longer shaft generates more clubhead speed -- if you can handle that much club.  Such a long shaft is really hard to control, which is why most pros use the standard 45 inch shaft, and some even cut it down to 44" inches for better control.  If you look at the clubs that win the long-drive competitions, Cobra, Bang, Alpha, Krank, all do realy well.  But many of these clubs are radical clubs designed for one thing: bombing it long.  Most of them have a 3-4 degree face, which most amateurs would really struggle with.  But if all you care about is distance, check some of those out.

The longest driver I have hit would either be the TaylorMade R7 or the Cleveland HiBore XL.  I have hit both clubs over 350, but the Cleveland does **much better** in wind.  The R7 is a very fine club, but my natural ball flight is very high, so I prefer the HiBore which has a low-launch (high kick-point) shaft.

  11. Nike Forged Titanium driver(350cc).  318 yards.
