  1. The longest time I've been not moving is an hour, and I've been start-and-stop, slowly making progress for two hours.  I also got car sick from that...

  2. 405 in LA - Plan was to have lunch in Santa Monica area before heading to see the Dodgers. Left Long Beach area at 10am, got to Santa Monica at 5pm, and Dodger Stadium at 8pm.

Once spent 12 hours driving from Las Vegas to LA.....usually takes me about 4 hours.

  3. We were headed home from the Grand Canyon and three hours North of Phoenix when we were told the Interstate was closed due to a tractor trailer wreck. That was at 11AM and we finally got into phoenix at half past one the next morning. The temperature in Phoenix, by the way, was still102 at 1:30 in the morning.

  4. Not me, but the following happened to a friend of mine.

He was travelling north on the M6 and got onto the Carlise by-pass section of the motorway. Unbeknown to him, seven miles north of him, a lorry jack-knived and over-turned spilling its load.

However, the load was sulphuric acid, which melted the road surface. It took the fire brigade four hours to wash the acid away and the Highways Department two days to make a temporary road surface.

As cars started to leak off the motorway, the streets of Carlisle became jammed with the congestion spreading inland as cars sought other routes to avoid the ever-increasing jams.

My friend moved 400 yards in the first four hours and a further 800 yards in the next four. He got off the motorway after sixteen hours, albeit resorting to the hard shoulder in parts, but it took a further six hours to clear the area.

  5. I sat for almost 14 hours on I-10 in texas during the summer, no that sucked.
