What is the longest time you've have fixed braces on for?

I am coming up to my second year and it doesn't seem like they are coming off any time soon .Also any tips for brushing as they have started to go yellow and gums are swollen

well personally, i got mine on in march of 07, and im getting them off in 2-3 months. my dad had them for 3 though. My sister had em for 2, and my mom didnt have braces. so it can be anytime, but i wouldnt expect more than 2 more years. as for the yellow, try brushing under the bracket, but i think the yellow is the glue. my teeth r really yellow, but not b4. so i think it just the glue. (dont choose light colors, because it only makes it more noticeable). And for the gums, try lightly brushing them. if they start to bleed (mine do alot) STOP! the next day try massaging with your finger, and then work your way up to the toothbrush.

Well one of my friends had braces for about 2-3 years, she got them off early this year and another one of my friends has got braces now, she uses one of those tiny little brushes aswell as a toothbrush to get between and behind the brackets to clean them thoroughly, and dont scrub just brush gently although ive never had braces or need them, i know you get your teeth whitened, depending on where you live and what orthodontist you go to after the braces have been removed.

5 and 1/2 years when they were done like 3 years ago.... they just kept dragging it out...

i got my braces off after about 8 months then i had to use a clear retainer for over a year and that bit sucks so bad. i had to use a little interdental brush thingy to get into odd places and i also had to use a soft bristle toothbrush. keep cleaning your teeth after meals or just use the little brush after. good luck in getting your braces off it feels really really weird, but a great weird.

Back when I had them, over 3 years! It felt like h**l but was worth it :)

I had mine for a year and a half .. but it all depends with different people. One girl I know had hers on for like 3 years, even though her teeth were perfect after a year, there was just one tooth the orthodontist wanted to put right .. but in the end, it's so worth it :D

I had a double ended toothbrush, and the smaller end use to clean in between the brackets

Also, a softer toothbrush will stop your gums hurting
