  1. one month. Usually, your travel agent will take care of your vise with a fee ($50 at a Vietnamese travel agent).

  2. When I first started visiting Vn, I would receive a one month visa (single entry). Since 2002, I have always received a 3 month visa (again, single entry).

If it is your first visit, you will probably receive a one month visa. Your visa can then be extended at three month intervals at the discretion of the local Immigration Officer. I have heard from ex-pat friends that a visa renewal costs 300,000 d (>$20).

If you have a Viet birth certificate, my friends tell me that you can now stay indefinitely. If you marry a Viet national, you can apply for a Permanent Resident Visa which is "permanent".

BTW, the link posted above is a valid site,,, but the Viet government doesn't play hard and fast with the rules if you don't cause any problems. They are nowhere near as efficient as the American NSA, FBI, etc, but they do keep close tabs on visitors who keep returning to the country.

They know if you're "naughty or nice" lol

  3. Oh, Tourist visas are valid for a single 30-day stay. The government often talks about issuing visas on arrival to certain favoured nationalities, but as yet this sensible scheme has failed to materialise

But you can get Visa Extensions. Tourist-visa extensions cost as little US$10, but it is easier to pay more and sort this out through a travel agency. The procedure takes two or three days and you can only extend one time for 30 days.

You can visit https://www.vietnamroyaltourism.com/Viet... for more information about visa

I used this service in April.  Although putting part of the money up front made me nervous, it worked out fine and I picked up my visa right at the airport in HCMC.

Best Visa I have ever received in Vietnam.
