  1. The difference is that anthropologists gain their knowledge on a secondhand basis. For example, they find relics and ask people of that origin and  ancestry about its meaning and purpose. The answers maybe held back because the people maybe guarding their history bloodline for selfish or common reasons and the anthropologists have to fill the gaps in between their findings to interpreted to the readers. Sociology is about social behavior of people in this world and is more correct. Sociology is present. Sociology is a Government, they don't get away with too much with out us knowing do they. Theres more truth in sociology less in Anth.

  2. Actually, anthropology is the study of an entire culture, to whatever extent possible.  That is because the society under study is less complex.  It may be extinct, which is physical anthropology, or it may be an existing culture - cultural anthropology.

Sociology is the study of how people behave and interact in groups.  Sociologists usually study specific aspects of complex societies.

Both fields are related.  I was a Sociology major until I had to take a class in statistics, and realized that it was a hopeless cause.  So I switched to Anthro, and passed 4 quarters of a foreign language instead.  Sometimes things you can't control determine the outcome.

I liked Sociology better - I felt more connected to the material, and I'm not the type to go off into the wilderness to live among native people who don't speak English, or work in the Great Rift Valley looking for fossils.  But I enjoyed my Anthro classes almost as much.  I had some great professors who studied under, and worked with, the "giants" in the field.

There is something called the Birdsell Theory, in which Birdsell determined that 25 was the optimal number for a hunter-gatherer group. That's a big deal in Anthropology, and he was one of my professors.

    I teach junior high.

  3. it would be a lot easier for you to take the first course in each field - and decide what you like best.

You can always change your major.

  4. Cultural Anthropology and Cultural Sociology are where the two disciplines have the most in common. Many even feel these two areas of expertise are the same.

Professional Cultural Anthropologists will usually be an expert on a specific foreign culture. They can and should be used in the corporate world when a company considers building a plant in a different country. Otherwise, the company could show disrespect for the culture, and fail when they get no support from that culture.

Cultural Sociologists view their own culture, and explain various phenomena like rap music, or fast food. Cultural Sociologists are typicaly professors, teachers, or authors.

To say one is more historical is incorrect, Sociologists and anthropologists study history. There are historical sociologists. They do it differently for different purposes. To say one is more current than the other is also incorrect, they both have concentrations that focus on current times.

They are two similar subjects, one is focused on more material items (anthropology), while the other is focused more on activities (sociology), just understand that activities and material goods share similar origins, and you need to understand those to truly understand the concept.

  5. Sociology and Anthropology are really quite similar in their perspective but we can see a difference in methodology . Anthropology lays more interest on case studies on like sociology which focuses on general approach.  Anthropology concentrate more on the study of "primitive communities"  meanwhile, sociology concentrates more on the study of advanced societies. I think  the main difference lies on the cultural domain.Anthropology attempts to construct how the culture of a people shape their behavior .On the other hand sociology looks at the entire social system and its impact on the people as a group.

Career prospects come later in the course of study and research.Until after a master degree and continuous research can one start to imagine about career in anthropology and may be sociology too. If you take these options be ready to study up to PhD level to be called a professional.

Nevertheless, after your first degree in sociology or anthropology, you can enroll in a professional school to make a career. I think people who are very patient, calm and caring not too money minded should take on anthropology. The road is long, give up money to gain knowledge.Later knowledge will pay you twice.

Sociologist may be  some one interested in administrators ,
