  1. To make sure you can sleep comfortably at night, knowing that you live in a free nation.

  2. Locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver or repel the enemies assault by fire and close combat.

If you are not directly involved with the pointy end of that mission, then you probably do something to either directly or indirectly support the guy who does.

  3. To preform more complicated tasks such as dealing with logistics, piloting aircraft, ect.

Becoming an Officer means you need a college education. Having one means you have brains. Therefore, more complicated jobs are trusted to you as opposed to an Enlisted soldier. I personally like the Enlisted jobs better though.

  4. I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God

  5. Take care of the troops he commands!

  6. To carry out the mission of his unit, including the use of force when necessary to complete the unit's assigned duties as well as the care, training, guidance, education, promotion, and discipline of the men & women he leads.
