it clears the land devastating anything in its way clearing the land for more growth

  2. A lot of water.

  3. I am from New Orleans and stayed in the city during Hurricane Katrina. Even before the storm, I was a weather buff but I am not a scientist in any way. I still love water even after the storm. I hope what I have written below is helpful to you. ^_^

Floods have geological, economical, psychological, environmental and health impacts besides population impacts.

You can actually can see the geological impacts in places such as the Grand Canyon, USA (It once was part of an ocean so this is more to show the power of water and not necessary flooding--sry).

You  can also see the impact economically through events like the Tsunami or Katrina where so many businesses were literally eliminated from foundation they stood on.

Floods also have psychological effects on those who survive them. It brings communities closer and it makes people appreciate their own lives more. It can have negative psychological effects as well as seen through Katrina, the Tsunami and more recently the Monsoons in Asia. You fear when you hear of great storms because you don't know if it will come to your home again or will it have the same or worse effect on your town. Does that mean more death, more destruction? Once you have been through a flood, you join a club of millions of people.

There are environmental and health effects: The water may start clear but as it crashes into cities, it gathers sewage or decaying animals, humans, organisms which makes water unsafe to drink or cook in and may even have diseases. If the water doesn't have that, it will bring that as mosquitoes and other disease carrying animals and insects are able to multiply in the murky waters. It can also eliminate some animal’s natural feeding areas.

With all of the negative effects of flooding, there have been great ones through the history of our planet. Without the annual floods in Egypt on the Nile, the great kingdom would not have flourished. If you searched and looked at most great cities in the world, you will notice they are near water.
