  1. A predominant ingredient is beans.  Another predominant ingredient is peppers.  Another predominant ingredient is rice.  There is not one main ingredient.  It all depends on what kind of Mexican food you mean.

    I say maize is the most important ingredient because the Mayans (they're the only ones I'm sure of) believed that man was created from corn. Now, if that doesn't state the importance of maize, I don't know what does.

  8. Theres not really a main ingredient...we eat alot of beans, rice, chile (peppers), tomatoes, potatoes, meat (pork, beef, chicken) and corn or flour tortillas.  With the above ingredients you can make about 20 different mexican dishes.  :)

    Our main ingrediant is maiz, corn or maize, from which we make tortillas and from we use to prepare the most famous mexican dishes like tacos, enchiladas, aztec soup, quesadillas, tamales, etc

    Maiz was domesticated in ancient mesoamerican cultures like the aztecs.

    Maiz was so important to mesoamericans as wheat is important to europeans from which they made bread, cookies, cereals and pasta.

  17. Mexico is a huge country and most of the food is very regional. Not all dishes are based on rice and beans. It depends what part of the country you are looking at.
