The currency in Costa Rica is the Colon but I have been told that many places accept the US Dollar so im taking Dollars for when I go out there in July for a turtle conservation and learn to surf project and my PADI open water diver certificate.

Local currency is Colon. the current exchange rate is about 1 USD = 500 colones.

You can exchange USD in the Public or Private banks, it is safer.

Rent a car companies also accept US dollars, same for Hotel payments and or some popular restaurants.
