  1. First of all, the horse in question was three, not 2.

The main reasion is damage to a horses legs, which are very vunerable to damage if there is a misstep.   The other major reasion is if the horse has a heart attack.

When you look at all horses, there are 5 major reasion for them dying, Two illnesses, Colic, which is when their digestive system gets clogged, Lamintis, which is a hoof illness, Heart attacks, broken legs, or cancer.

More racehorses die from Colic and Lamintis and heart attacks, but heart attacks and Broken legs are the most common reasion if they are actually on the track.

Most feel that the horse breed is too fragil and there may need to be reforms to make the horses more sound.  For example, in the 1930's there are a couple horses who ran 35 times at age two.

  2. I feel that there are to many painkillers, unsafe racing conditions and not enough stamina training.

Horses racing when they should be resting from injury isn't good for anyone.

If the track conditions are dangerous; NO ONE should be racing.

Unfortunately, greed usually wins; and then come the tragedy's.

  3. The reason for her death is she was uthanized due to breaking both front ankles.  She couldn't stand, so they had to put her down.    They probably should've done that to Barbaro, much sooner, but they probably wanted as much s***n as possible, so they kept  him going for awhile.

  4. There are not definitive studies which draws data from all tracks, along with racing and workouts. It can be said Thoroughbred breakdowns, but the debate branches off from there on the reasons due to the industry not taking a hard look at available data...which is not available to the public/media/outside researchers.

  5. The horse that died on Saturday was too young to race (approx. 2 y/o).  They over worked him, ran him in too many races and he broke down.  Couldn't handle the grind of all the races and thus broke his legs.  Horses have skinny legs and big bodies, so all the weight can cause the legs to break.  Once a horses legs are broken, it will not survive.
