What is the main source of electricity on islands?

over the world... and there are many forms of electricity, i.e. AC, DC, static, etc.

I think the main source of electricity on Islands is water they use water and turn it in to electricity.

Since most islands don't have river systems large enough to build reservoirs to make hydroelectric power and wind turbines are still pretty rare, the most common way to generate power about has to be fossil fuel burning generators. Since oil is easier to ship and handle than coal, I'd guess it's the most common fuel.
