  1. ... English. And a lot.

  2. Irish is the official language of Ireland but is mainly spoken in the Gaeltacht areas (meaning Irish speaking region) which are mainly secluded areas on the west coast.

However English is almost totally dominant in social, economic and cultural contexts. English came to Ireland in the 17th Century where settlers were forbidden from talking to natives. Because the English were in power their language became powerful and since Irish speakers were usually poor their language was then seen as backwards.

Some English is based on Irish language forms though.

Pretty much everyone speaks English in Ireland.

  3. English is the main language and almost everyone speaks it fluently, and about 90% speak it as a first and main language.

  4. In most areas the language is English. But particularly the west coast still has a lot of Irish spoken.

  5. English and Irish are the official languages, every Irish person speaks English.

Nowadays you often hear Czech, Polish, Russian and other languages in the streets as well.

  6. english and gaelic (sp?)

gaelic is the native language, but most speak english because gaelic was banned for a while

  7. english is the main language of ireland and is spoken by nearly everyone in ireland, irish (gaelic) is an official language of ireland but is hardly ever spoken by anyone. the main immigrant languages spoken would  be polish, chinese and lituanian

  8. English is the main language and everyone here speaks English.  But Irish is the other official language, and everyone learns it in school as a compulsory subject.  Some people speak it as their native language.  Most adults get out of the habit of using it, but are still able to speak a few sentences.  It's also handy when you're abroad, because nobody around you will understand what you're saying.
