When inspecting and handling actual historical pieces, there are significant yet subtle aspects of interest to the historical fencing student that can easily be missed by less discerning eyes who may not consider aspects of the specimen as a fighting weapon. There are also elements of construction and design that are of interest to note for today's sword makers.
