  1. Wow. I don't know how some of these people got their answers. 7% of $10.00 is 70 cents. So subtract 0.70 from 10 and you get $9.30 as the amount after tax.

Usually "of" in an equation means multiply, so...

    0.07 x (of) 10 = 0.7

P.S. The one above me is correct if $10 is the TOTAL amount and you want to find out how much it was before you added the tax. An easy way to do that one is simply 10/1.07 and you get approximately $9.3458 or $9.35.

  2. 10 x .07 =tax

total amount - tax= total after tax

  3. If you are looking for the amount before tax then simply multiply by 100 then divide by the tax rate + 100

    Example of Tax rate 7.00

    Total Amount * 100 / 107

    10 * 100 / 107 = 9.35 Amount before taxes

The only prvince this does not work for is Quebec since they have tax on tax

  4. Divide $10 x 107 = $0.09345

then multiply the answer by 7 = $0.65c

    That is the tax.

It works as long as you know what the percentage of tax being charged is.

    So, 20%, Divide $10 x 120 = $0.0833

    x 20 = $1.66
