  1. No, there is no restriction. On the other hand, companies don't actually hold a lot of cash, this is just working capital that they use to run their business. Typically, measures such as annual sales or market value would be used to judge the size of a company. For example, Exxon is listed with annual sales of $335 billion and a market value of $410 billion in 2007.  There are over 100 companies with sales of over $50 billion worldwide, and many of these are in the U.S. according to the Forbes list.

    Looking at the value of their assets, there are at least 21 companies with over $1 trillion in assets and 5 in the U.S. Assets includes both cash and other property.
