  1. Well, Alpha Centauri is 29 18' from the celestial south pole. The celestial south pole is 33 54' above the horizon at Sydney. So the highest Alpha Centauri can ever be is the sum of these two numbers, i.e. 63 12' above the due south horizon. I hope this helps.

    If you are on the equator and the object is over head, it is at 90 degrees.

    If you move to 20 degrees, (N or S) the object drops to 70 degrees.

    If you move to 45 degrees, the object drops to 45 degrees.

    Now if the object moves in your direction 10 degrees, it will increase to 55 degrees.

    If it moves to 45 degrees, it will be over head again at 90 degrees.
