I am planning on buying a laptop that is worth around $1000. But, I can only get it online and I do not have a credit card. I have a Bank of America Debit Card though, and I want to know the maximum amount I can purchase something each day.

  1. Mine is $300 per day at an ATM machine but limited only by the amount of money in your checking account if you use it at a business. You should have no problems. Have you considered using a rewards credit card for this purchase? Get something back that way.

  2. If it's a debit card, isn't it attached to a checking account?   I would think the only limit would be based on the balance in the checking account.

  3. If you have the funds available in your checking account, it should not be a problem to make the purchase.

However, whenever you have a question about any bank account, you should call your bank to get the right answer.  Your bank may have different limits set for different types of accounts.  This transaction you want to make is not a withdrawal, it is a purchase and therefore not subject to daily withdrawal rates.  They may have a cap on purchases as well.  Your bank is the best place to get the answer to your question.

  4. Generally your debit card limits are 500 debit side and 1500 to 2000 on the credit side. However these balances also depend on your account balance. If you have 3 dollars then you don't have a purchase.

  5.

SO ,...you  are  good  to  go  unless  you  can  not  cover  the  $1000.00

  6. Depends on how much you actually have

A debit card is not the same as a credit card

  7. I used to work for an Office Depot store, and people purchased around $1,000 - $1,500+ worth of stuff...usually along with a computer. Sometimes by debit, sometimes by credit. You'll definitely save yourself a headache by using your debit card as opposed to a credit card. Anything over $1,000, the register prompted us to call the credit card company for an "authorization code," which took quite a while sometimes. Otherwise, without the code, the transaction can't be completed.

But anyway, you'll be fine if you are just using it as a debit at the pinpad in the store. As far as I know, you can purchase whatever amount you want on your debit card, with no limit. It's electronic transfer, so it's not like you are taking actual limited paper money out of an ATM or bank.

As a side note:  I tried to withdraw $6,000 out of my checking account at a bank one day. They "didn't have enough money"...even though it was a bank. For something big where you physically need the money withdrawn...you have to call the bank ahead of time and make sure they order enough money to cover it in addition to their regular order of money, on their next money shipment.

  8. I've charged $2000 before. You should be fine.
