As the population of human is exponential.

What percent of maximum capacity are we at now? assuming we are all on ground level

How many years would it take to reach full capacity assuming no world disasters etc.

  1. The rate of increase, although dependent exponentially is also variable. Think of it in terms of doubling time. ie if net pop growth was 1% D/time would be approx 70 years. These figures are different for different geographical areas with different resources.Certain third world countries (particularly Africa) have already reached the limits of their 'carry capacity'

Target for year 2050 is 9.5B..just sustainable  ..at present overall growth rate projected figure is 12B..non-sustainable..predict mass starvation..wars on global scale as desper8ly impoverished people try to survive.

  2. I liked a lot of things about RTF's answer.  Many environmental scientists believe--and I agree--that the Earth's real, sustainable carrying capacity was about 1.2 billion, a figure that was exceeded in the early 1960s.  There is now no way to avoid widespread disaster, though if people learn from that disaster, which will happen in the next decade or so, it will be possible to make a sustainable world for whoever is left.

But we will probably still be greedy, and we'll do it all over again, and keep doing it until we are all dead.  That's what the computer models predict.

Sorry.  Sort of a gloomy prospect.  Maybe a good election in November will help.

    Good luck to us all.
