  1. By 3-core cable I presume you mean standard 3-core flexible copper cable, like the cable feeding domestic appliances.

    If so then, if the cable is in free air (not enclosed in a wall or a thermal insulating material), and the voltage is 230v (single phase):-

    Maximum current rating for 2.5mm cable is 30A  


  2. What is 3 core?  3 conductors?  Do you have a copy of the current NEC (2008)?  Or do you live in Canada and have the CEC?  Is this Copper, or Aluminum coated copper. What temperature?  Are you talking about 250mm cable? For use with 2001-5000V?  As referenced Table 310.79

    a 90ºC copper clad ___has an ampacity of 290A one circuit.  It appears that 3 circuits is 245A.  

  3. Depends on whether it's high temperature cable I think.

    However, if you're talking about standard three core cable then it would be safe to say about 24amps but some 2.5mm cable can take up to 36 amps.
