I have two new 205/40/15 but they are very thin "super sport" tires. I wanted to go thicker for the back two wheels because there's is some much more space between the tread and fender in the rear. I'm not sure what is considered truck/suv tires. Ideal would be 205/50/15 but could I stretch it to 205/65/15. I have 1994 prelude s

  1. You'd be fine going to a wider tire if the front and rear tire diameters are  the same - you may want to find a lower aspect ratio (like a 35 or 30) that is wider, but the same diameter as your 205/40/15's.Going to a higher aspect ratio and wider will result in a larger diameter tire. This is cool as long as you don't have ABS brakes. ABS brakes don't like tires of different diameter. They fault out and give you an "ABS" or "Brake" red dash light. Hot rodders have done this type of thing for years, however few hot rods have ABS braking.

  2. There wouldnt really be any reason to go bigger. If you ever want your tires rotated you will have to pay to have it dismouted and remounted. If you go with a 65 ratio your gonna have worse grip and performance than a 35 or 40 ratio. Usually a 205/65R15 is a tire they put on old man buicks and caddys for the ride comfort and it will like funny on that prelude. lol I wouldnt recommend it. Just go with a 205/35 or 40 R15 or 215/35 or 40 R15. You will like it in the long run. You can use a wider tire but just make sure its approved for the rim width so it will fit.
