  1. Sure, check with the Russians.  They already have the Trans Siberian Railroad in that route, but it's not what you'd call fast.  As long as Poland, Russia and China are willing to upgrade the tracks, it could be done.

  2. in 1849, the golden spike was laid in Promontory, Utah, USA to connect the east and west coast of the United States. There would be no problem doing the same with faster trains in europe and asia, except for the politics of cost, upkeep, ownership, and terrorism.

I would prefer not to have to get a visa for khazekstan if I was going to china from france ;)

  3. Sure, almost anything is possible, takes a lot of money but the technology is already there.

In fact, given the efficiency and relative fuel economy, I think you will see more long distance high speed rail in the future.

  4. Anything is possible, except for things dealing with state authorieties.

So take Barcelona-Madrid (www.renfe.es). This is in the moment probably the longest non-stop-run.

  5. Apart from the fact that the tracks in the former Soviet Union are built to a wider gauge than the world standard, and would have to be rebuilt, then it could be done.
