A tractor came up our street tonight with a massive plough trailer behind. It got stuck trying to get through the legally parked cars while trying to manouver. The danger was that it would hit the parked cars. It blocked the traffic for 15 mins and when I noticed and went to move my car and complained that a knock on the door would have been polite I was laughed at and told that as farmers they had a right to operate. Do I have a right to complain and who to??

  1. theres no written law but why was he going there anyway... if he doesnt have fields at the other end of that street common sense should have prevailed... not bloodymindedness... ask a bobby next time u see 1...

  2. i am going to guess at this as i am not 100% sure, farmers can use trailors  without lights as long as they are going from field to field, and if using major roads or streets i am sure thats working lights have to be fitted along with a flashing amber light (E.U.REGULATION).you can complain to the police,is your road or street resticted in any way as  a weight limit or any other restiction, you could try your local council ,but never contact the farmers union as they always side with the farmer.

  3. simple and easy. 30mph.

  4. width is 102 inches, any more will have to have a permit

  5. I know this is going to ruffle a few feathers, but the farmer is absolutely correct.

Roadways are for providing a means of transportation - not a car park.

If by parking on a roadway you cause its width to be reduced, you are effectively causing an obstruction ( see Highway code rule 243).

Emergency services have authority to move obstructing vehicles by force if necessary.

Where you will find maximum trailer dimensions for use on UK roads.

  6. stop whining and let the farmer do his job the normal width of a farm tractor is 8'4" the same as a lorry

if there is no restiction on the road for width then you have no arguement,

you sound like one of these people that has grew up in a town and just moved to a more rural part of the land and have no concept of what happens in the countryside

  7. Just call your local department of motor vehicles office first for the state that you live in and then call the police department......

  8. The maximum legal width is 2.55m without an escort. The farmer can apply for an annual license that allows him to move implements upto 3.5m wide with an escort.Anything wider than that needs a movement order and an escort.

Something to ponder on: Can a wagon get down your street easily? If not? What are you going to do when a fire engine needs to get somewhere in a rush?
