In the public school where I teach, the Grade V level with 9 sections has 8 special teachers. the grade VI level with 9 section has 5 special teachers. Grade I to IV levels do not have special teachers since we are not departmentalized. It seems so unfair for us grade I to Grade IV teachers because we are required to teach the whole day without any vacant periods while the other teachers enjoy so much time teaching only in short period of time everyday since they have so many special teachers.

  1. I think around 7 or something.

  2. It's according to each school district. THey have to follow laws in determining how many teachers are used, but believe me,they dont' follow the laws.

What you can do is write to the school board members and ask for a policy stating HOW do they pick special ed teachers, how many are to be used, etc and also ask for a copy of the school board meeting notes from the meeting this was decided on.

THe meeting notes from school board meetings are public records.
