That depends on how you want to define "oceanographer."  If you restrict it to someone sitting in a research position, probably something around $250,000/yr (U.S.) for a very senior person at a top-tier institution.  If you include people who might be CEOs for treasure-hunting or geo-exploration (e.g., oil, natural gas, minerals), seven to eight figures.  Those are the exceptions though, average salaries are a lot less (see link below)
