What is the maximum time that cruise ships usually stop over?

Is it normal for a cruise ship to stop over for 3 days (let's say in a 14 day cruise)?

And while at this, how many stopovers would it be normal for a cruise of this ammount of time to take?

I have been on almost 20 cruises on four different cruise lines and the usual procedure if for the ship to arrive at a port city at between about 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM.  In some cases the arrival may be a little later in the morning.  Then in most cases the ship will allow passengers off about an hour later (they have to clear the country's customs first).  Then the ship normally stays until about 6:00 PM.  In a few cases it has been a little longer, in others shorter. So normally cruise ships stay just one day in each port.

The one exception is cruises to Bermuda which usually allow you 3 days there.  But cruise ship that go to Bermuda may dock in 2 or 3 cities/places on the island while there.

I have been on several cruises that were 12 to 14 days and in only one case did the ship stay more than one day.  Last year we did a cruise that included a port stop in St Petersburg, Russia and on that cruise we stayed from the morning of the first day until late at night the second day.  This same 14 day cruise had 8 port stops.  Our 12 day Mediterranean cruise had 8 port stops and but our 12 day Panama had only 5 port stops.  So there is no real NORMAL number of port stops.  It all depends upon the cruise itinerary and the traveling times and distances.

Some 7 day cruises may have just 3 port stops while others can have 5 port stops.

It depends on where you are going.  We took a 7 night cruise to Bermuda - and we were docked there for the whole cruise.  Most 7 night cruises to the Caribbean have 4-5 stops, one night each.  

Longer cruises, 14 nights - may have 24 hours stops at each port.  It really depends on the cruise line and where you are headed to.

Well, usually a ship will stop at a port for 1 day not a full day though usually 7-8 a.m. dock and leaves port around 7-9 p.m. I just went on a 12 day cruise through the Mediterranean and the longest we stayed at a port was 2 days and we stopped at 7 ports. I would think a 14 day cruise would stay at least 2 days at 1 port as well with 7-9 ports.
