  1. There is no such thing as unofficial weight. Any extra the airline give is just a goodwill. Be nice to the check-in agent, and who knows you will be lucky to get the extra few kilos.

  2. Where are you travelling to?  Look at the link given by 'tonalc2', but be aware that if you're flying International Economy to any where by the Americas, you are limited to 1 piece of luggage weighing 20kg.

There is no unofficial weight, Qantas and other airlines are quite strict on this.  My husband flew Qantas from Sydney to Frankfurt last year.  His baggage weighed 25kg, and the check-in staff made him remove 5kg. At lease they provided him with a bag so he could carry the leftover 5kg as cabin baggage.

You could always ring Qantas to double-check.

  3. It used to be 50lbs, but that has been changing by the day, google qantas and it will tell ya, easy enough

  4. How about officially?

You're allowed two pieces of 32 kg each when flying to/from USA, US Territories, Tahiti, South America and Canada via the Pacific

All other international destinations, you're allowed two pieces of only 20 kg each (in economy class; business gets 30 kg and first class gets 40 kg).
