  2. It means king. The character is 王 supposedly symbolizing the way the king, the vertical line, unites, heaven, earth, and man, the horizontal lines.

    Or at least, that is how I learned it when I studied Chinese.

    False etymology or not, it is a great mnemonic device for the character.

  3. Wang is Chinese. Nothing in Japanese ends in a consonant other than "n"

    忘 (wang 4) neglect/forget
