  2. Direct marketing is a global form of marketing that involves businesses or organizations communicating or selling its products directly to their customers through marketing outlets such as the telephone, direct mail, consumer-facing press releases and e-mail.

    Good luck!

  3. Direct Marketing differs in China and Korea.

China doesn't have a sophisticated postal system, which is important in direct marketeing. Korea has a sophisticated system.

The term Direct Marketing in Korea and China is diffeent from the way it is used in the US. Direct Marketing in China and Korea will often mean the use of agents or representatives. Chinese and Korean cultures are Confucian. This means they respect old people and the family. Buying from strangers through the mail ((U.S. direct marketing) is not popular. Talk to the Chinese and Korean consulates in your city. They will often have directories of  local companies you can write or e-mail to.

  4. I would expand upon the second person's definition of Direct Marketing by adding that Direct Marketing differs from traditional marketing or advertising in that it attempts to connect with customers on an individual basis, rather than with a universal message.

Highly targeted direct mail will reach you with a message or an offer that is completely different than what your next door neighbor might receive. Much of today's Direct Marketing is highly targeted based upon a person's customer profile. This includes personal information as to a person's age, gender, income, level of education, marriage status, buying habits, media habits and other lifestyle characteristics.

In the days before Direct Marketing became as sophisticated as it is today, marketers were content with sending the same message to a mass audience with the hope that it might reach enough customers to justify its expense. This was sometimes referred to as "the shotgun approach." As Direct Marketing became more and more sophisticated however, and customer databases became more robust, marketers have been able to create more highly targeted campaigns - which are often referred to as using "a sniper's rifle."

I hope this helps you understand the difference between Direct Marketing and Mass Marketing.
