What is the meaning of "chai pani" indian employee

I work in new Zealand and have an indian employee who has been working for me for a few months, his son would like to work for my company, and he is asking if I need "chai pani" - I don't know what this means - can someone who speaks hindi/urdu help?

  1. Hi, I am an Indian. The literal meaning of chai pani is "tea, water" but what your employee is asking you is that do you need any snacks like tea, water, juice, biscuits, twinkie or any such 'snacky' thing. That's what he means. It's a very common term used all over India from a simple cafe to the Parliament House!!! Hope this was helpful!!!
