  1. A licence to sell alcohol for you to consume OFF the premises. Presumably a bar or hotel has an ON licence.

  2. they can sell you beer or alcohol to take and drink off the premises

  3. Its where you can buy alcohol!

  4. Basically there are two types, an "on" and an "off"

On licenses are those on which you can buy drinks and take them either on or off the premises (pubs, restaurants etc.)

Off licences are those which you can buy drinks but they have to be consumed only off the premises (supermarkets, corner shops etc) hence the term "off license"

  5. I could be wrong,

but i think it has something to do with how years ago you could only buy alcohol from a pub, and you were charged tax for that, so off-licences came along and now we don't have to pay the same tax. We still have to pay tax though, same as with EVERYTHING.

  6. it means they have a license for people to buy alcohol and leave their premises with it, some places only have a 'on license' which means people can only drink in their property and not leave with it
