What is the meaning of "ticking along"?

i do not know what is the exactly meaning of "ticking along"?

and when and where i can use this phase?

Does anyone can help?

It refers to a time when you could hear clocks with pendulums & wrist watches ticking.  The second hand would move & you'd hear a ticking sound.  

So, if somethings ticking along, it's doing what it's supposed to do.  Nothing out of the ordinary, regular like clockwork.
