There is a boy in Island Of The Blue Dolphins named Nanko. Karana's older sister, Ulape, is in love with him. He is always smiling and I would LOVE to know what Nanko means but I can't find it. If anyone can or knows by heart(?) could you plz tell me. I NEED 2 KNOW!!! THNX!!!!

I looked it up all over the place, but only to no avail, so I'm starting to think this a made-up name.

I couldn't find Nanko, it's probably made up.

Danko - a variant of Daniel - means God is my Judge

Janko - means Gift from God

Nanako - for a girl - means Child of the Greens

You know i think there are just some names that don't have any meanings. For instance, I was looking at baby names on line and there seems to be some names that don't have any meanings. oh well.

Without knowing the tribe or language of the character the closest i could find was -

NANUQ  which is native American and means "polar bear" in Inuktitut.
