What is the meaning of this old quote?

Because with anything, if several different people are told something, it gets altered as it goes down the line of people and the last person may have heard something totally different that what the first person told.  Therefore in that instance it would no longer be true, it would be altered.  Hope this is explained enough.

Ok, My english is not very good but I'll try to explain what I think about that old quote.

I think it means that truth is unique and every person has a different vision about what is and what is not true.

So if more that one person think of something as true, that something is not the truth. Did I explained myself??
