  1. The eyes are windows, the eyelids canopies over the windows (or penthouses- original meaning)

    The metaphor is that "sleep" will never be able to pull the canopies over the windows ie the master of the Tiger will remain awake.


  2. It means he will never be able to sleep easy again because  of his guilt and the nightmares he will suffer. "Pent-house lid" in this case means eye-lid.
