It's a song about a person who is dying young and all he has are a million memories of youth and life that will stay in the hospital room and not go any where else.

It's about the shortness of life and how sometimes the best in his life was when he was pure of heart.  

He is dying and still he must hold his head up high.  I think because he learns that the biggest thing a person can be in life and achieve in life is just to live.  And he almost missed it.  He realizes that we humans think there is a higher achievement in life but there's not. It's just us and being who we can be.  And he only realizes that when he is dying.

In song that is the sad wisdom he leaves for those he leaves behind.

I'm not sure but that's what I got from this song.
