What is the meaning of this verse?

Question

And of the fruits of the date-palm, and grapes, whence ye derive strong drink and (also) good nourishment. Lo! therein is indeed a portent for people who have sense. (16:67)

I was arguing with an atheist while she said that this verse was talking that alcohol is OK!

Is there any such interpretation for this verse?

first of all NOTHING is Abrogated in Glorious Quran..this concept is found in book of fabrications hadith books...

[6:115]  The word of your Lord is complete, in truth and justice. Nothing shall abrogate His words. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.



[18:27]  You shall recite what is revealed to you of your Lord's scripture. Nothing shall abrogate His words, and you shall not find any other source beside it.



[78:37]  Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them. The Most Gracious. No one can abrogate His decisions.

one who says verses are abrogated,didnt understand or read carefully Glorious Quran...

16:67 From the fruits of the palm trees and the grapes you make wine as well as a good provision. In that is a sign for a people who reason

so people think 16:67 allows alcohol !!,and this verse was abrogated !!

there are numerous verses in Glorious Quran which says,you practice idolatry,does this mean idolatry is not prohibited !!

carefully read the verse,,You make wine As Well As GOOD Provision.

good provision is separated from wine ..

s*x is not prohibited by Glorious Quran Adultery is ...

fruits are not prohibited,alcohol is,,fermentation is prohibited for consumption to get intoxicated..

Tafsir:

(And of the fruits of the date-palm, and grapes, whence ye derive strong drink) intoxicants. But this is abrogated; it is also said that this means: you derive food from it (and (also) good nourishment) a lawful nourishment such as vinegar, treacle, raisin and other things. (Lo! Therein) in that which I have mentioned to you, (is indeed a portent) a sign (for people who have sense) for people who believe.

whatever is forbidden on this earth will be allowed in Jannat. That's the real test to control your desires and refrain from such things. Surely there will be alcohol in Jannat but not the wordly type!

OK, I once had a perfect answer in a website bringing all the relevant verses to explain how this wine is not intoxicate and is completely different. Anyways, I think these verses are relevant:

056.018 بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ

056.018 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains:

056.019 لا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلا يُنْزِفُونَ

056.019 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:
