  1. Dicitonary Definition:

    1.  a member of a race of brutes in Swift's Gulliver's Travels who have the form and all the vices of humans

    2.  a boorish, crass, or stupid person

They way people use "yahoo" today:

It's something you exclaim when you're really happy or excited.  For example, "I just won the lottery, YAHOO!"

  2. Yup.  What Brooke said.

Comes from Gulliver's Travels, by Jonathan Swift.  The novel was a political satire, and Yahoos were the boorish, uneducated people who were, I believe, the enemies of the Lilliputians, another word from Swift that has made its way into the English vernacular.

  3. In "Gulliver's Travels" by Jonathan Swift, there was a place where the horses were the dominant species and something rather like humans were a degraded race.  The horses called them "yahoos."
