I see these stats all the time for players, but I have no idea what number makes for a good player.

  1. .290 BA

    .400 SLG

    .345 OB

  2. .270 BA / .400% slugging / .340 OBP i say would be about average for a major leaguer

  3. one way to answer this question...

of all the teams in baseball (30) here are the median team statistics:

    Batting Average:

    15. Los Angeles Angels- .261

    16. Kansas City Royals- .261

    Slugging Percentage:

    15. New York Mets- .414

    16. Atlanta Braves- .413

    On Base Percentage:

    15. Baltimore Orioles - .330

    16. Pittsburgh Pirates - .327

hopefully this answers your question but according to this .261/ .414/ .330 is the average player, on the average team. so anything better, and you've got yourself a major leaguer.

  4. The median major league batting average is .261,  On-Base Pct. is .3285, and Slugging Pct. is .4135, based upon 2008 season statistics, to date.
