  1. Canada has a National health program--the taxpayers paid for your baby.

We don't have that in the USA, so part of it is paid for by the health insurance we purchase, and  the rest is paid by ourselves.

If nothing goes wrong, it will cost around $5000.00, with approximately 1500.00 our own responsibility.

I wish we had a system like yours--I currently pay 160.00 a month for insurance on 2 people, and we still have a $2000 yearly deductible before it kicks in. Insurance companies are such a SCAM!!!

  2. With my first, my bill was over $12,000 and because I have insurance I only had to pay $600.  With my 2nd, we had better insurance so I didn't have to pay anything and I don't know how much the bill was.

  3. I didn't have to pay with my boys but my bestfriend had insurance that didn't cover everything so with insurance she still got a bill for $2,000 from the hospital and $1,000 from her Dr.

  4. Nothing.  My insurance paid for it.  If uninsured, it costs thousands of dollars

  5. In Canada, everyone (who is a legal citizen) has insurance.  That's the beauty of universal, tax-payer funded health care.  Rich or poor, we're all taken care of.  No one here, or in most civilized countries, require their citizens to lose their homes and go into lifelong debt for required health-care.

I don't know how much it costs.  I shouldn't really need to know.

Do I pay higher taxes?  Maybe.  So they say.  Do I care?  No.  I'd rather have the peace of mind for me, my family and friends that money isn't going to be a hindrance in case of accident or illness, when healing should be our main focus.  Not finances and debt.

  6. It cost my friends Girl Friend 500,000$

  7. Nothing, I have 100% medical. But without that, it would have been $10,000

  8. wow ! tthat would have been nice! i had a pay as you grow plan through my doctors office it was supposed to only cost about 600 dollars if you had normal delivery everytime i tried to pay my payment they told me i didnt owe any money on my payment plan but then i got home after having my baby and some complications to 2500 dollars in bills and it would have been more but 2500 is the out of pocket maximum through my insurance !

  9. I had my son 5 months ago and ended up with an emergency C-section with other complications (incision infection and kidney infection).  That included a three day hospital stay and an overnight due to severe dehydration within a week of being discharged.  I had also gone to the hospital four times for testing and other monitoring during my pregnancy.  I was insured through an HMO and ended up paying about $800, not including post-postpartum medication.  Had I not had insurance, it would have been $24,000. Scary, huh?

    UPDATE:

Why the thumbs down?  Because I had a complications or because I had insurance?   All I did was answer honestly.  Maybe the thumbs down person just really hate HMOs.

In the U.S. you don't have insurance, the hospital usually works with you to figure out some payment plan.  Depending on the hospital and your financial situation, they usually forgive some, but not all.  I know that because my father had a massive stroke two weeks after being laid off from his job, so he had no insurance.  His bills amounted to over $150,000, but  they got it down to $60,000.  A steal, right?
