  1. In the Hindu System of Astrology, the Asterism, in which the Moon is placed at the time of birth is of great significance. The term Janma Nakshatra(Asterism of Birth) is actually the position of Moon in the particular Asterism at the time of birth and is called Birth Star which can be known in the following  Prakruthi kundali as called Rasi and Navamsa kundalies  ...you should know exact date of Birth, time of Birth, and place of Birth for calculating and knowing  your Birth star with particular padam

12 signs or divisions [called houses] of the zodiac, all the 9 planets [including the 2 shadow planets called Rahu & Ketu] are rotating forever. Each Rasi or House is sub divided into 9 parts according to the occupation of these planets in 9 padams of certain stars i.e Nakshatras [Asterisms].So totally  12 houses * 9  = 108 sub divisions. There are  totally 27 stars as called Nakshatrams[Asterisms]..Each star has 4 padams or divisions. Thus there are totally 27 *4 = 108 padams for all these stars or Nakshatrams. As there are12 Rasies as called Houses of the ZODIAC, all the above Nakshatra padams of 108 numbers are classified at a rate of  9 subdivisions to represent each Rasi or House as mentioned in the inception. These are otherwise called   NAVAMSA - CHAKRA , while the ZODIAC is called AMSA CHAKRA

Hence all the 9 planets  as called 1..RaviI[Sun]  2. Chandra[Moon]  3 Kuja [Mars]   4. Budha[ Mercury]  5 Guru [Jupiter] 6 . Sukra [Venus] 7 Sani[Saturn]  8 Rahu & 9. Kethu are rotating regularly forever, moving from one subdivision of the ZODIAC to other in cyclic order covering all the 108 subdivisions[ NAVAMSALU] as mentioned above. The location of the planets in each NAKSHATRA  division is fixed universally with reference to the longitude and latitude of the place of Birth and according to the tables called  EPHEMERIS.As per HINDU ASTROLOGY

  2. Interestingly, I am in a hindu punk band called 108... http://www.weare108.com and I am also a Vedic Astrologer.

When you divide the 12 signs into 9 slices, you get 108 pieces. Thus the Navamsha is the most important divisional chart in Vedic Astrology. However, there are not "108 houses in the navamsha" - there are 12 houses in EVERY chart (except the Hora, which has only two and is not really a "chart" proper).

When you divide the 1st house of the birth chart into 9 slices, the ascendant degree will rest in one of those slices. The sign ascribed to that slice becomes the ascendant of the navamsha.

The rest of the houses are determined synonymously by signs proceeding from the navamsha ascendant.

    An example would help:

My ascendant is 1º40" of Capricorn. Every sign is 30º (the sky is 360º, and there are 12 signs. 12 / 360 = 30) So divide 30 by 9 and you get 3º and 20" per slice. Capricorn is an even sign not an odd one (it's the 10th sign), therefore the first slice is Capricorn navamsha and the next slice is Aquarius, then Pisces, then Aries, etc. Since my ascendant falls in the first slice, the ascendant of my Navamsha is also Capricorn.

Since the first house of my Navamsha is Capricorn, the second house is Aquarius, then Pisces, Aries is the 4th, etc.

Now, My moon is in the 11th Degree of Taurus in the birth chart. Slice Taurus into 9 pices, 3º20" each. This means that the moon is in the 4th slice. Taurus is an even sign, so the first slice is Taurus, then Gemini, Cancer, then Leo. So the navamsha of my moon is Leo. Since Leo is the 8th House of my Navamsha, draw the Moon in Leo in the 8th Navamsha house.

Do the same for each planet.

In odd numbered houses, the LAST slice is the same sign as the one being sliced. For example the last slice of Aries is Aries navamsha. The first slice of Taurus is Taurus navamsha.

The Lordship of the signs and slices is the same as normal sign lordship...

Sun and Moon are in the center owning Leo and Cancer. Next is Mercury who owns the next signs, Virgo and Gemini. Next is Venus who owns the next two: Libra and Taurus. Next is Mars who owns the next two: Scorpion and Aries. Then comes Jupiter who owns the next two: Sagittarius and Pisces. Finally is Saturn who owns the final two: Capricorn and Aquarius.

Thus you can determine 108 areas of Lordship in one sense. Though honestly, I see no point in doing so for normal chart analysis. It is better to stick to fundamentals, until these fundamentals are understood in your sleep and are a unified part of your incoming and outgoing breath.
