  1. The average temperature for a day is normally defined as the average of the high and low for that day.  Take those average daily temperatures and average them for the month.  Note that this wave of averaging can be misleading on days when the temperature does not vary smoothly, but it is the only way possible for stations that ONLY record highs and lows (and there are a lot of those).

  2. well most airports and weather stations report temperature once an hour.  So the average temperature for the month will just be the sum of all the temperatures divided by the total number of hours in the month (i.e. 720 hours if the month has 30 days)

  3. Use the formula for finding "average" and you will have your answer.  Finding "average" is taught as early as elementary school, so if you cannot find the average, ask any junior high student.

  4. Statistical Forecasting: Meteorologists ask themselves, what does it usually do this time of year? Records of average temperatures, average rainfall and average snowfall over the years give forecasters an idea of what the weather is "supposed to be like" at a certain time of year.

Computer forecasting: Forecasters take their observations and plug the numbers into complicated equations.  Several ultra-high-speed computers run these various equations to make computer "models" which give a forecast for the next several days. Often, different equations produce different results, so meteorologists must always use the other forecasting methods along with this one.  That's why when it comes to forecasting, machines can't do it alone; you always need humans involved.
