    1.2 South-West Monsoon Season ( June ’05 to Sep ’05 )

    During the South–West Monsoon season, Tamilnadu recorded an average rainfall of 308.5 mm. This is lesser by 7.3% when compared to the normal rainfall of 332.9 mm. The Comparison of rainfall recorded during the South-West Monsoon season with the normal rainfall shows that the rainfall was “Excess” in 1 district, “Normal” in 23 districts and “Deficient” in 6 districts. During this Season, the highest rainfall of 1032.5 mm was recorded in The Nilgiris district and the lowest rainfall of 48.4 mm was recorded in Thoothukudi district.

    1.3 North-East Monsoon Season ( Oct ’05 to Dec ’05 )

    During the North-East Monsoon season, Tamilnadu recorded an average rainfall of 828.8 mm. This is higher by 80.5% when compared to the normal rainfall of 459.2 mm. The comparison of rainfall recorded during the North-East Monsoon season with the normal rainfall shows that the rainfall was “Excess” in 29 districts, “Normal” in 1 district. During this season, the highest rainfall of 1984.5 mm was recorded in Chennai district and the lowest rainfall of 453.6 mm was recorded in Thoothukudi district.

The comparison of rainfall recorded during the Hot-Weather season with the normal rainfall shows that the rainfall was “Excess” in 14 districts and “Normal” in 13 districts and “Deficient” in 3 districts. During this season, the highest rainfall of 324.7 mm. was recorded in The Nilgiris district and the lowest rainfall of 44.6 mm. was recorded in Chennai district.
