Question:

What is the minimum I should run in order to burn fat?

After some streching and 30 min powerwalking I run 5 laps in the tartan track (2 km), it takes me 16 min more or less and do it 6 days a week. I wonder whether it is enough in order to lose weight or should I run for a longer period of time.

  1. cut your food intake, that will lower your weight faster.

change the 30 minute powerwalk to 1 hour powerwalk and dont worry about the running

  2. Depends on your calorie intake. It is enough to lose weight granted you don't drink a twelve pack of Dew a day and eat a tripple whopper daily. If you eat somewhat healthy you should drop fat pretty easily.

  3. From what I've read and experienced it is better to stay around 30 minutes or less.

Also try interval running instead it burns more fat in less time. What I do is run 2 laps, walk one lap, then run 2 more.(usually in the morning)

You can try to run 2 minutes straight, rest 1 minute then run 2 minutes again and keep doing that for awhile. You burn more fat in less time then walking 30 minutes then running an extra 16 minutes.

Also check out Menshealth.com  they have some good tips. Here's a link to the interval studies they did... http://www.menshealth.com/cda/article.do...

Edit: Some say cut food intake but in my opinion you don't have to. If you drink water through the day and eat 3 meals and 3 smaller meals/snacks each day it'll increase metabolism and keep you full. Just eat healthy food, (ie) fruits, nuts, meat, eggs, and w/e else. Okay to indulge in some desserts.

  4. for me 45 minutes or less.

  5. First, controlling diet is more effective then adding exercise when losing weight.

But, saying that, if you want to do it with exercise, this is how it works.

Your body burns quick-energy sugars and proteins during the first 20 minutes of cardio.  You burn ZERO fat.  After 20 minutes of constant motion, your body moves into the fat stores.  After 20 minutes, you are working on burning fat.  So, to be the most effective, powerwalk for 20 minutes, then kick it up a notch to a jog or a run.

Right now, you have 10 minutes of power walking and 15 minutes of jogging burning fat.

That's good.  That could be about 200-250 calories of fat burning per day.  1 mile = 100 calories, no matter what the speed.

  6. losing weight will have more to do with your diet. not that exercise isn't helpful but in addition to your working out, try to cut 500 cals per day. i think that you should run every other day and try to do it for longer. keep doing the 30 min walk, but try to run 20-30 mins too. only do it every other day, rest is just as important as the exercise.

  7. Not only running, but also eating. Keep your calories low each day so you won't have to run as much. If you want to lost weight fast, i suggest WALKING 1-3 hours 5 days a week. Walking takes your body in slow and exercises you heart more then running. If you do not mind taking time losing weight i suggest keep a low diet (always keep that in mind) and take 15-30 minute walks 6 days a week. You period time is well but you do NOT have to run. Keep up the good work!
